Antennas might not get the credit they deserve, but for the people who do use digital antennas for all of their TV needs, they know just how satisfied they are with this seemingly old but very useful technology. With the switch to digital broadcasting underway in just a matter of a few more months and stations already broadcasting in digital, not only will the picture quality improve for antenna users, but they will be able to watch their favorite local channels in HD as well.
For some people, they can't imagine not having specialty channels like Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and Nickelodeon. They might have a set schedule of shows that they make sure they watch routinely on these specialty channels. This kind of TV programming is only available with cable and satellite, but these companies also offer a basic service that will let you watch your local channels. Unless you like having specialty channels, then there is no reason why you need to pay a monthly fee to watch your local channels. Then there are those who subscribe to cable or satellite service but hardly ever watch the specialty channels. They might watch a show on one of these channels occasionally but not enough to make the monthly fee worth it.
Many people don't realize just how little they use their cable or satellite service until they really sit down, evaluate, and calculate all of their expenses. In addition to their TV service, they might find that they no longer need their radio satellite, movie subscription, or other unnecessary services they may subscribe to. Those who have canceled their cable or satellite service will find that they can view the vast majority, if not all, of the shows they missed on these specialty channels on the internet. The network's site or sites that are dedicated to posting episodes of shows will have full episodes. What makes it even better is that there isn't a long commercial wait during intermissions. Normally, no more than one commercial will air during this time, which is much less than what you normally see when watching the show on TV.
Furthermore, your HDTV is capable of picking up HD broadcasts. Everyone wants the best picture quality, and high-definition is the latest technology to hit the televisions. High-definition broadcasting offers crystal clear picture clarity like none you have seen before, and images appear sharper and clearer.
