All families need to have an escape plan if they have a house fire during the day or at night. As your children grow and can do more things on their own, it might be possible to alter your plan in order for them to get out safely faster on their own.
If you are one of the many families that have an fire escape plan in effect, is it time to change it or can you leave it the same? As most of you might have set this plan up when your children were small and this might have been a couple of years ago, it might be time. As we all know, your children tend to grow up really quickly, sometimes faster than you would like them too. You would feel better if you had a plan that would make sure that you all are able to get out of your home alive.
Some of you might not even be ready if you had a fire and in cases like these you or one of your family members might not be able to get out in time. You need to find a way out of your home that everyone that lives there can remember even if you panic. If your plan has too many curves or obstacles in your way you might not be able to get out in time. You want a plan or escape route that will take the shortest time possible. Everyone needs at least two ways to escape a fire because you never know where the fire will star and one exit or another could be blocked. As fires travel very fast, this is the main reason for the shortest route. You also want it to be easy for your young children to remember.
When you are in the midst of a fire it might be and it is really important to remember not to panic. Being in a panic could make you forget your escape route or anything else on your mind. If this panic attack is too great, it might make you forget to even breathe. Remember to train your kids to stay low in order to make it through the smoke without being overcome. Try to remain calm so that you and your family will remember what they need to do and where to meet. Grab that emergency bag that you have packed as you go through your escape route. Once everyone is outside where you are suppose do meet, call the fire department if you have not done it already.
Remember to get far enough away from the fire and start calling the people you need to call. You may very well have to stay somewhere else for the night, so already have someone in mind in case of an emergency like this. You might prefer to take your family to a motel for the night. After the firefighters and your insurance agent have come and gone, then you will have to find a fire and water damage company to come out and repair or fix all that is damaged. This company will be able to do all the things that will need to be done and in some cases your insurance agent will be able to do this for you.
