Political polls are the most popular types of polls out there. They tend to increase in nature during the months leading up to an election. However, they are often taking place all time such as those that want to identify what the People think of President Bush. Political polls were also the very first to be introduced.

Generally all democratic nations have polls. People elect their representatives through polls. A written or unwritten constitution decides the process of polls and their frequency. In old times when democracy wasn’t so popular, only a few selected groups of society were given a chance to cast their vote. Voting has become a right of the people that live in democratic countries. Some supporters of democracy argue that it must be made a fundamental duty.

There are different methods of casting a vote. Raising hands is a popular open poll method throughout the world. Secret ballets are the most popular method and people are more comfortable with it. Many people don’t want peer pressure to affect their voting choices. Every nation will have different tiers of government and so each tier will have a separate election. Countries ruled by dictators and king will not have polls.

As political polls gain importance, the curiosity to estimate the public opinion continues to increase. Today political polls are the main branch of opinion polls through out the world. These can be further divided in to two categories, normal opinion polls and exit polls. Normal opinion polls take place at various times of year.

The exit polls are the opinion polls taken at the time of real election. The opinions of voters who already deposited their vote will be taken and telecasted. This is again a popularity gimmick invented by the media organizations. In large countries like India, where elections are held on different days, these polls may influence the voters.

Not all political polls are legally binding though, just informational. There are plenty that take place by sampling the population to get a good idea of the outcomes. Many teachers believe the election process is important. They may hold an election poll in their class room to teach students about the process. They can tally the votes and discuss the outcomes of such polls as a valuable learning lesson.
