Trophies
Trophies are often given when someone wins the prize for a variety of different types of events. Trophies are most commonly associated with sporting events that are for either individuals or for teams. In professional hockey the Stanley Cup is the winning trophy. The Wimbledon Cup goes to the winner of this annual tennis match. Even in NASCAR there is the Borg-Warner Trophy awarded at the end of the season to the driver with the most overall points.
Trophies come in a variety of different designs and sizes so you will be able to find them for just about any type of sporting event you want to. If the entire team wins a very large trophy to put on display it is common for each player to get a smaller replica of it for their own personal use. Many of them are engraved with the year and the name of the player in honor of the event.
The materials used to make trophies vary as well. They are commonly made from precious metals including silver and gold. Some trophies are very heavy depending on the materials they are made from. Most trophies are very durable so they will last a very long time. They are often well maintained too as they are an honor to have.
Some types of events require the trophy to be relinquished if a new champion emerges in the event. The passing of the trophy is generally done in a type of ceremony that honors the old recipient as well as the new one. While no one is happy about having to give up such trophies, it definitely gives them something to continue working for.
Many children take part in little league games for various types of sports. The tradition of earning a trophy at the end of the season is alive and well in many communities. For older children they may have to earn those trophies in playoff games. Many of these children proudly display their trophies in their rooms. Maybe one day they will be a part of a football team that wins the Super Bowl and have another amazing trophy to add to their collection.
