While many of us don’t think mini scooters look very comfortable, they are the latest craze. They resemble a motorcycle more than a scooter but they are very small. Some of the people you see riding them almost have their knees touching the ground. While they do have a decent speed behind them it is hard to picture anyone being able to stay on one for too long before their back or their legs started to hurt or cramp up.
I guess one advantage is that they won’t have far to fall should they have a wreck on a mini scooter. Since these types of scooters are smaller they quickly became something for more than just transportation. They became something to do tricks on like people once did on BMX bikes. There even became racing and trick contests for these mini scooters at many different locations.
These first came out as a toy for young kids but the teenagers and young adults seemed to take to them faster. They also had the money to invest in them that the younger kids didn’t. Most parents weren’t willing to shell out about $500 for one of the mini scooters but those older individuals with their own money didn’t seem to have a problem doing so. They became very common at drag races and car shows all over the country.
At one point these mini scooters became so popular that retailers couldn’t keep them in stock long enough. People would line up outside the store hours before it opened when they were expecting new shipments. This also let to mini scooters being a common item stolen and the sold on the black market. People would be going along on a mini scooter and get attacked for it.
Just as quickly as it started though the craze for mini scooters has slacked off. Part of that reason is that the colder weather has set in and no one wants to be out there in it. Kids also move on to new trends and fashions very rapidly in our society. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that several of them traded their mini scooter in order to buy an iPhone or Playstation 3.
