Most of us work very hard, and we deserve to be recognized for it. Labor Day is a holiday that most businesses give their employees off with pay. This holiday officially started in 1882. It takes place on the first Monday in September so the date of the holiday changes based on how the calendar falls. Some people take this day to simply relax and enjoy their day off. They may sleep in and even spend the entire day in their pajamas.

It takes place on the first Monday in September so the date of the holiday changes based on how the calendar falls. Some people take this day to simply relax and enjoy their day off. They may sleep in and even spend the entire day in their pajamas.

For others Labor Day is full of fun events so they get up early to prepare for them. In some areas there are parades, carnivals, and plenty of family activities. Some employers host picnics to honor their employees on Labor Day. Barbeques that take place at the parks and in backyards are a very common occurrence.

For some, Labor Day is also a very busy time with children. Many schools return from summer vacation for a new school year the day after Labor Day. Parents finish up last minute shopping for clothing and school supplies. It is also important to get their backpacks ready and have them off to bed at a decent hour. For students that go to school all year long, they generally have the day off to celebrate Labor Day as well.

Sports events have become a tradition for many on Labor Day. They can watch the events on TV or attend them in person. Racing events seem to be very dominate on Labor Day including NASCAR. Some states have amazing fireworks displays as well that people come to see after dark.

For those watching TV on Labor Day, the big event is the Jerry Lewis Telethon to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. People from all over the Nation call in to donate what they can to this cause. Lewis has all sorts of entertainment in the line up too so that people will continue to tune in.

Regardless of how you spend your Labor Day make sure you are safe about it. This is one holiday that often has many fatalities associated with it. Since it is a three day weekend, there are plenty of travelers on the road. There are also plenty of parties involving alcohol. Many states have sobriety check points over the Labor Day holiday in order to help remove such individuals from the roads.
