Llamas are very tame animals and so raising them isn’t very difficult. They don’t have sharp horns to harm you and they don’t kick people unless they feel like they are being threatened. Llamas are very tame animals and so raising them isn’t very difficult. They don’t have sharp horns to harm you and they don’t kick people unless they feel like they are being threatened. Llamas get along well together and form their own type of hierarchy among themselves. Both males and females tend to do well living with each other. They communicate with one another by humming and occasionally you will hear noises from them to warn each other of some type of possible harm.

You will find that llama’s kick and each other and even spit on each other. This is their way of finding their place in the hierarchy. They can move from one position to the next by challenging those llamas that are above them. This is why you see the younger llamas engaging in such behaviors more often. As long as you raise llamas naturally they shouldn’t spit on people. If they do, it is because they have become too comfortable around them and they think they have to fight them for hierarchy as well.

Llamas do each quite a bit each day you need to offer them plenty of grass in the pastures, grains, and even supplements if you want them to be strong and healthy. Even though llamas resemble camels, they generally don’t do well going days without water. Make sure it is readily available for them to consume as they desire.

Llamas breed very easily with the females becoming pregnant often on the first try. You can let the llamas choose who they want to breed with or you can block them off and pairs and encourage it to happen. The males don’t like to have intercourse with the same female more than a couple of times so if she isn’t fertilized quickly it may not end up happening at all from that male.

There are many reasons why llamas are raised. They can be used for various types of work and some people want them for a pet if they have open land for one to roam. The main use for llamas though is their wool. It can be fun to raise llamas as they don’t pose too much of a challenge and you can make money from them as well.
