If you are interested in some fast action and wild adventure, downhill biking may be the extreme sport for you. With this particular sport you generally don’t have to ride your bike to the top, which makes it even more appealing. It is take there by an off road vehicle that can tackle the terrain.

These events require the participants to be fast and ready for anything. The first one to the finish line gets some wonderful prizes or cash due to the number of spectators that it draws. There is plenty of danger though involved in downhill racing. In addition to racing down the incline you have to be ready for quick turns and wide jumps.

Accidents with the terrain and with other bikers are common. The incline on these hills is extremely steep. It is common for downhill biking events to take place during the off season with ski slopes. Even though the bikes are specially designed for this type of event there are still many unknown factors on the course to be concerned with.

Downhill racing bikes have suspension on both the front and the rear for added control. The brakes are larger than most bikes and they can be implemented almost immediately. The overall frame on the bike is also wider and longer to help with speed and control issues. Most bikes used for downhill racing weight approximately 50 pounds in order to offer all of the necessary features.

Getting your body and your mind ready for downhill racing is a very complicated process. During the events the spectators often comment that they racers make it look very simple. A combination of building up overall body strength and mentally being able to control the bike allow this to happen.

Due to the difficulty of the sport and the risk of injury, most events require participants to have the right safety gear or they can’t be in the race. This includes a helmet with a face shield, body armor with knee and elbow pads, and goggles to prevent debris from getting into their eyes.

Downhill biking can be fun but it is also quite a challenge. Make sure you always pay close attention to the safety gear you need. Never go downhill biking alone as you need someone around to spot you. A good trainer can help you as well rather than trying to learn about the sport on your own.
