There are many wonderful non profit organizations in our society that work to help other people. One of them is called Locks of Love and it is really starting to get the recognition that it deserves. This involves individuals volunteering to cut off large amounts of their hair. This hair is donated to make wigs for children that are losing their own hair due to medical problems including cancer. Having a wig made from quality hair allows the child to have some confidence in themselves to go into the world.

Most of the time the wigs made by Locks of Love are given to the children at no charge. It depends on their financial situation. Most people that have such an ill child though are struggling financially and don’t need one more thing to have to pay for. There are several radio stations hair salons that donate their time in order to provide the services for the Locks of Love. With the right promoting, many people turn out to donate their hair to such a worthy cause.

Most of these locations are willing to package the ponytails that are cut off the people and seal them to be sent in. Others require the individuals to take care of this process on their own. It is very important that the hair is completely dry before it is packaged and sent in. Each ponytail needs to be sent in its own package. Each ponytail has to be at least ten inches in length in order for it to be used by the Locks of Love organization.

Not all types of hair are acceptable for the locks of love program. Those with colored or permed hair can donate it to the organization. Bleached hair and gray hair don’t work well. The hair also needs to be healthy so those with dry and damaged hair may not make the best candidates for the donations. Layered hair is acceptable as well but one length is much easier to work with when it comes to making wigs for the children.

This is a very easy way for just about anyone to give back to those in need. Hair can be grown out again and the process isn’t going to cost you anything. Many people grow their hair out each year and then donate it to Locks of Love on a regular basis. They feel good knowing their efforts are helping children suffering from hair loss.
