The internet is the most valuable resource you will find when it comes to reporter jobs. You can search for specific types of report jobs or look for ones available in a specific location. You can also post your resume with credentials on various sites where employers look for viable candidates for the positions they have open. It is very important that you are able to convince the employer to give you the opportunity to work for them.

It doesn’t hurt to contact the companies you want to work for. Be prepared to provide them with solid reasons why you want to work for them as a reporter as well as what you have to offer them. Being a reporter can be rewarding but it will definitely be a challenging job.

A reporter has to be hard working and dedicated to providing quality material. They also have to show good ethics and the ability to make good choices. Most reporter jobs aren’t your basic 9-5 so you have to be willing to work when the stories are developing. It is a good idea to have a portfolio of the work you have completed as a reporter. Some good letters of recommendation from those you have worked for are helpful as well.

For reporters who don’t  have much experience, starting with a small newspaper or magazine may be a good choice. This way you can get one on one guidance to help build your skills on the job. There is plenty of time to work your way up to bigger and better reporter jobs. Another advantage to working with a small company is you will have to cover many areas.
