The world in which we live requires the efforts of individuals independent from the flaws, weaknesses and excuses that surround hem. This does not mean that each man must stand alone. In a spherical world with a gravitational center, it is impossibility that one might do anything "alone". Whether by random occurrence or by design we will work with support of and support others in their ideas and objectives. This synergy bonus once harnessed can accelerate growth, and can ease the ability to advance.
Teamwork is a natural principal; it is a survival mechanism used among many species to accomplish any number of tasks. In the workplace, teamwork is used to divide a task into smaller parts so that its completion is made at a faster pace and a more masterful skill. Take a restaurant for example. If a single man chose to open a restaurant, he would be responsible for welcoming, seating, waiting, cooking, serving, appeasing, and cleaning for every table.
If we look at that man logically, he can only have one table in his restaurant. Were he to add more tables in his restaurant, he would not be able to meet all the needs of his customers, but let's add just one other man to the mix. Let's add a man who will work the kitchen. This man now takes the responsibilities of cooking and cleaning while the other can treat and serve and aid the customers at their tables. The two together can easily manage 5 tables.
This synergetic relationship is why a small specialized group can reach a large customer base. The ability that a team has to build off of one another creates an efficient task force which far exceeds any expectation of a sole worker.
There are difficulties that must be considered, however, these can be remedied if they can be isolated. One major issue that groups can have is known as "group-think". This is the mentality that creates uniformity within the group when it may not be the best thing. When group-think occurs, issues are not addresses because an individual feels intimidated to speak out against the general consensus.
A good example of this occurred during the construction of the Titanic. The owners of the ship decided that it would take away from the look of the ship to have lifeboats all over the deck, so they removed many. This was a discomforting course of action to the captain and many engineers, yet they did not speak out. The consequences were detrimental.
Let us remember the importance of working together, yet keeping a constructively critical attitude. This will generate productivity and energy within a business and allow for the benefits of a prosperous team to be reaped.
