Monterey County Faces Foreclosure Crisis

Notices of default increased for Monterey County by 140 percent in the first quarter this year compared to a year ago. Experts said this was due to the risky loans during boom times and now falling prices.

Flagler County, Florida, home to 50,000 people, even with such a low population compared to other counties hasn't escaped the foreclosure crisis. Foreclosure activity increased again in Flagler counties in April, with nearly 1,000 families facing possible loss of their home.

Foreclosures in San Louis, Obispo County are moderate at this point, but can get worse especially in the economic situation we are facing today.

The numbers of foreclosures are up in Salt Lake County since August 2007 and have been trending upwards, but only in slight increases. The summer selling season should ameliorate or lessen the effect. Some increase in foreclosures is expected to continue, but it should not be a significant increase.

Filing for bankruptcy to stop foreclosure is likely the last resort for most homeowners. They have exhausted all other means to try to solve the matter to no avail.

The current foreclosure situation in Kansas is at the moment, moderate. It has been reported that the foreclosure rate in Kansas is about half that of the rest of the country. However, several foreclosures are filed each week in Sedgwick County alone and they numbers are trending up.

One cause for bankruptcy filings is less obvious than others. Home mortgages are a large and important sort of debt for most, but buying a home is not what causes bankruptcy.
