Meteor Showers In Late July

A flurry of Meteor Activity in late July makes a worthwhile show in the late evening and early morning Sky. Read on to find out more about these little known celestial shows. Meteor Showers that can be seen include the Alpha Pisces Australids and Southern Delta Aquarids, so make sure you check them out.

I am fortunate living in a region of Australia with one of the richest Aboriginal cultures and a living history. North East Arnhem land in the Northern Territory is located at the confluence of the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpenteria. As an Avid Astronomer I am always on the lookout for an opportunity to share the night sky with others. This day the two came together in a beautiful symmetry.

NASA's Phoenix lander is scheduled for a May 25th touchdown on the surface of the Red Planet. This mission has the potential to take our understanding of the suitability of the sub surface conditions on Mars for life to a new level. If NASA can pull this off, it will be quite an achievement just to get it down on the surface !

A close look at how science in space can have a down to earth benefit. The European Space Agency (ESA) are doing some leading edge research of great interest to climate scientists.... There has been much in the news lately about the large scale break up of the Ross ice shelf in Antarctica, making this very topical research.
