    A bar mitzvah is often a very large event so the planning for it needs to take place early. A boy of Jewish religion will be eligible to take on the responsibilities of the commandments of the religion after his 13th birthday. It is tradition for the bar mitzvah to take place on a Saturday. Generally it needs to be performed in the weeks right after the birthday of the boy. The first part of planning needs to be to approach the Church to find out what Saturdays are open to perform the ceremony.

    It is a very common part of a bar mitzvah to bring gifts to those you are there to honor. In most instances this gift giving happens at the reception that takes place after the ceremony. A table is usually designated where the gifts will be placed. Some bar mitzvahs have the boys open the gifts while the guests are there. Others allow this to take place in private later on.
